Hakata Issou (博多一双 博多駅東本店) is a titan in the world of Hakata ramen, renowned for a signature style of tonkotsu broth so rich and foamy it has been nicknamed the 'pork bone cappuccino'. This is a place for purists seeking a powerful, uncompromising bowl.

The star of the show is the broth: a thick, creamy, and deeply savoury pork soup with a distinctive frothy top layer. Reviewers consistently praise its intense flavour, which pairs perfectly with the shop's very thin, firm noodles, often ordered 'bari-kata' (extra firm) to hold up to the rich soup. The chashu (braised pork) and ajitama (seasoned soft-boiled egg) are also highlighted as being of high quality. Despite the long queues that often form outside, guests note that the service is highly efficient, keeping the line moving at a steady pace.

However, the very intensity that fans love can be a drawback for others. The most common complaint is the powerful pork aroma that permeates the shop and can cling to clothes. Some diners also find the broth overwhelmingly rich, heavy, or even slightly bitter. A few have noted that the staff can be blunt, with limited English spoken.

For the quality, prices are reasonable. Reviewers in 2024–2026 reported paying around ¥970 for a standard bowl of ramen, ¥1,100 with an egg, and up to ¥1,410 for a 'special' bowl with extra toppings. An extra portion of noodles (kaedama) costs about ¥150. For those who love a punchy, authentic tonkotsu, it represents excellent value.
