Mihara Tofu Ten (三原豆腐店) is a modern izakaya in Fukuoka's Nishinakasu district, run by a tofu producer with roots in Saga Prefecture. The menu is a showcase for tofu and soy milk, elevating them beyond simple side dishes into the stars of a creative, contemporary Japanese meal.
Guests consistently praise a handful of signature dishes. The most famous is the 'maboroshi no atsuage' (famed thick fried tofu), celebrated for its perfectly crisp skin and custardy, creamy interior. Other favourites include the rich soy milk shabu-shabu hotpot, a flavourful mapo tofu, tofu-based crab cream croquettes, and a surprisingly decadent tofu 'nama-choco' for dessert. The drink list, with a focus on sake and white wine, is considered a reliable pairing for the food.
However, the experience can be inconsistent. Some diners find the service slow and the portions modest for the price. More significantly, a number of non-Japanese visitors have reported serious billing discrepancies, including being given different, higher-priced English menus, being charged for unordered appetisers, or being unable to get an itemised receipt. While not every guest has this experience, these reports are frequent enough to warrant caution. A few isolated hygiene concerns have also been noted.
Dinner typically costs between ¥5,000 and ¥5,999 per person. Reviewers in 2024–2026 reported paying around ¥700 for the signature atsuage and ¥800 for the tofu chocolate. Hotpot sets range from ¥6,000 (pork) to ¥8,000 (beef), but visitors should confirm prices, as some have reported being charged double the listed menu price for certain items.
