Tomikiyo (富きよ) offers a unique take on Fukuoka's signature hot pot, motsu-nabe. Instead of the more common miso-based broth, the house style is modelled on sukiyaki: top-quality Wagyu offal is simmered at the table in a savoury-sweet, garlic-forward soy broth, then dipped into a bowl of raw, beaten egg. This distinct ritual defines the meal and sets Tomikiyo apart.

Guests consistently praise the pristine quality of the offal, noting its clean flavour and sweet fat. A highlight for many is the senmai (omasum tripe), which is served for a quick shabu-shabu in the broth, giving it a delightful crunchy texture. The hands-on service is another key feature, with the owner and staff guiding diners on cooking times and the proper way to eat each component. Strong side dishes, like aori-ika (bigfin reef squid) sashimi, large portions of karaage fried chicken, and chicken tataki, are also frequently recommended.

While overwhelmingly positive, some reviews note that the sukiyaki style can be a surprise for those expecting a classic miso motsu-nabe. The restaurant is small, intimate, and located a short subway ride from central Fukuoka. As smoking is permitted, the space can get hazy.

Reviewers report a typical dinner spend of ¥3,000–¥4,000 per person. The signature Wagyu motsu-nabe was recently cited at ¥2,200 per person, with add-ons like champon noodles for ¥200. Popular sides included aori-ika sashimi for around ¥1,600 and karaage for about ¥900. Most diners consider it excellent value for the quality and attentive service.
