Admission is 1,500 yen; towel, slippers and toiletries are included. Swimsuits are not allowed — everyone bathes nude. Some onsens prohibit visible tattoos — check in advance; special adhesive patches are sold to cover them. Drinking water is usually available in the bathing area, but it's better to bring your own bottle. And don't forget to try banana- or melon-flavored milk after the onsen — Japanese people consider it the perfect way to finish the bathing ritual. Vending machines with milk in different flavors are often found at the exit.
