Onomichi Ramen Maruboshi (尾道ラーメン 丸ぼし) serves a textbook version of the ramen style famous in this port town. The signature is the broth: a shoyu (soy sauce) base built on stock from Seto Inland Sea fish, chicken, and pork. It's finished with chunks of pork back fat that float on top, keeping the soup hot while adding a clean sweetness that balances the fishy umami and soy depth. Alongside the ramen, the shirasu (small white fish) rice bowls and generous karaage (fried chicken) are consistently praised side orders.

Reviewers across languages praise the well-balanced broth, the texture from the back fat, and the shop's custom noodles. The standard Onomichi Ramen is a frequent highlight, with diners recently paying around ¥850. Other popular choices include the shirasu-rice set for an additional ¥350 and the char-siu plated ramen for about ¥1,030. Once seated, service is noted to be quick.

The shop's popularity means queuing is the norm, with waits of 30 to 90 minutes common during peak season. A few visitors have found the dining room uncomfortably warm in summer or the service brusque, though most report a friendly experience. While the vast majority love the ramen, a small minority find it too salty or underwhelming compared to the hype.

For under ¥1,000, Maruboshi offers a well-made, region-defining bowl that most visitors feel is excellent value and well worth the wait. For those short on time, a branch is also located on the first floor of Hiroshima Station.
