Since 1966, Akaneya Coffee Ten (茜屋珈琲店) has been a sanctuary for those who believe coffee is an art form. Here, in a hushed room filled with the sound of classical records, each cup is a performance. The barista’s focused, unhurried pour-over is the main event, culminating in a brew served in a vintage porcelain cup chosen specifically for the guest. The atmosphere is one of quiet reverence for the craft, from the aroma of beans ground to order to the final, perfect presentation.

Guests consistently praise the Akaneya Special Blend and single-origin coffees like the Santos NIBRA and Kilimanjaro. The iced coffee is another highlight, noted for its rich concentration, while the dense, creamy cheesecake is considered an essential pairing, sometimes available with seasonal matcha or strawberry sauces. Reviewers around 2024–2026 reported paying about ¥900 for the house blend, ¥950 for iced coffee, and between ¥1,750 and ¥1,850 for a coffee and cheesecake set.

The experience is not for everyone. The counter-only seating is intimate and can feel cramped. A few visitors find the service brisk or overly formal, and the deliberate pace means a significant wait for your drink. The price, while justified by the quality for most, feels high to some for the portion size. For those who value ritual and atmosphere over speed and volume, however, Akaneya offers excellent value.
