Most udon shops in Kagawa are self-service, but Honkaku Teuchi Moriya brings your bowl to the table. Its signature is the kakiage, a mixed tempura fritter of Setouchi shrimp and vegetables roughly the size of a face, which covers half the bowl. Owner Morita, profiled on NHK's Professional series, can often be seen hand-rolling the noodles. The shop has appeared on Tabelog's Udon 100 list repeatedly since 2017.

Nearly every review praises the kakiage for being crisp rather than greasy. The favourite way to eat it is kakiage oroshi udon, served with grated daikon and sudachi citrus. Tori-ten (chicken tempura) comes a close second, with juicy meat and a seasoned batter. Reviewers describe the noodles as glossy, springy and very smooth. They also mention warm, helpful staff, and many buy the house soy sauce as a souvenir.

On the downside, several reviewers find it pricey by Kagawa standards. A few found the noodles softer than classic Sanuki style, or felt the tempura overpowered the broth. One diner suspected a spoiled sweet-potato tempura.

Most meals cost ¥1,000–2,000 at both lunch and dinner. In 2025–2026, reviewers paid around:

  • ¥400 for plain kake udon
  • ¥880 for kitsune udon (with sweet fried tofu)
  • ¥990 for kakiage oroshi udon, or ¥850 for the mini
  • ¥1,250 for olive-beef niku bukkake (cold udon with beef and dipping broth)
  • ¥680 for a side of tori-ten
  • ¥1,650 for a seasonal squid-and-maitake kakiage bukkake

Reviewers consistently say the portions justify the premium. A full kakiage often defeats one person, and even a small bowl satisfies.

  • Getting there: About 8 minutes by car from Takamatsu Airport and about 35 minutes from JR Takamatsu Station. Electric bicycles can be rented at Busseyama Station (¥500 for the first 3 hours). A branch in Takamatsu Symbol Tower near the station is the car-free alternative.
  • Booking: Reservations are not accepted, so everyone walks in and queues. On weekends and holidays, waits of 80–90 minutes are common and tables turn over slowly. Weekday mid-afternoons and rainy days are quieter.
  • Payment: Credit cards are not accepted. Rakuten Edy, PayPay, d Barai and au PAY are accepted.
  • Seats: 50 seats in total, with 26 at tables and 24 on tatami. There are no private rooms, and a child chair is available.
  • Families and access: Children are welcome, and the restaurant is wheelchair accessible.
  • Smoking: Smoking is not allowed inside. There is a smoking area on the benches outside.
  • Parking: 40 spaces, with room for large vehicles. The car park sits across a busy curved road with no crossing, so take care.
  • Take-out: Available.
  • Ordering tip: The full kakiage is huge, so order the mini or share one.
