Honkaku Teuchi Udon Hayuka (本格手打うどん はゆか) is a destination for udon lovers who prize texture above all else. This Kagawa institution is famous for its 'goumen' (剛麺) — exceptionally firm, thick, and twisted Sanuki noodles, cut by hand. The intense chewiness is the restaurant's defining characteristic, creating a loyal following among those who appreciate a truly robust noodle.
The star of the menu, according to countless diners, is the cold bukkake udon, where the firm texture of the noodles truly shines. The version with meat (niku bukkake) is also a consistent favourite. When ordering bukkake, staff will ask if you prefer a light (usukuchi) or rich (kokuchi) broth. The freshly fried tempura is another highlight, with reviewers frequently praising the shrimp, large shiitake mushrooms, chikuwa fish cakes, and soft-boiled egg tempura. Despite its popularity, service is fast and prices are very low.
The main drawbacks are practical. The on-site parking lot can get crowded, and long queues form on weekends. The restaurant operates on a lunch-only basis and often sells out by early afternoon, so an early arrival is essential. While most praise the noodle's texture, some find it too hard for their liking. A few isolated reports mention an occasional unpleasant smell from outside drains.
Value for money is considered exceptional. Reviewers in 2024–2026 reported paying around ¥390 for cold bukkake udon, ¥320 for kake udon, and ¥770 for a large meat bukkake. Tempura items are typically about ¥120 each, with many diners enjoying a full, satisfying meal for under ¥1,000.
