IZA offers a theatrical dining experience at an intimate six-seat counter in Kamakura. The only option is a fixed omakase menu of 13 to 17 small, inventive plates served in rapid succession. The chef's recurring 'one-spoon' bite, a single spoonful of complex, evolving flavours, is a signature. The menu, which changes every two months, is heavily focused on local seafood from nearby waters and produce from the Kamakura and Miura areas.
Guests consistently praise the creative ingredient pairings, such as red shrimp with foie gras and fruit, or a tart of sea urchin and caviar. The house-made pastas and focaccia, meticulous sauces, and thoughtfully curated drink pairings also receive high marks; the non-alcoholic pairing is particularly well-regarded. Diners appreciate the chef's friendly, personal presentation of each dish and the use of beautiful Japanese tableware.
While overwhelmingly positive, some reviews note practical points. The experience is expensive; with a drink pairing, the bill often lands between ¥25,000 and ¥33,000. A few guests found the wine pours small for the price, or the pace and background music made it hard to hear the chef's explanations. The entrance is also unmarked and can be difficult to find on the first visit. Recent reviewers paid around ¥18,700 for the set menu, with alcohol pairings adding ¥7,400–¥9,400 and non-alcoholic pairings around ¥6,400. Despite the cost, most feel the creativity and quality offer good value for a special occasion.
