Guests consistently praise the creativity and quality of the dishes. The simple potato salad is a recurring favourite, with reviewers in 2024–2026 paying just ¥80–¥90. More elaborate offerings include beautiful sashimi platters (around ¥1,180–¥1,300 for a half portion), tempura of eel liver (unagi-kimo, ¥398), and the indulgent “tsufu temaki” or “gout hand-roll” (¥598). The bar is also celebrated for its extensive sake list, which is offered in various tasting sizes (e.g., 30ml for ¥300, 60ml for ¥580), allowing guests to sample widely. Most diners report a total spend of ¥2,000–¥3,000 per person, calling it exceptional value.
The bar's main drawback is its size. With room for only about 11 people, it fills up quickly, and some visitors have reported being unable to get in. The owner is talkative and entertaining, but service is primarily in Japanese, and some of the most interesting daily specials may not appear on the English menu. The atmosphere is lively and noisy, not suited for quiet conversation or groups.
- Getting There: The bar is a 1-minute walk from Kawaramachi Station (Exit 2) and about 140 meters from Gion-Shijo Station.
- Booking: Walk-ins are the norm, but as the space is extremely limited and often full, arriving early or calling ahead is a good idea. It is not suitable for groups.
- Seating: Standing room only for about 11 people. It's best for solo diners or pairs.
