Kita Alps Bokujou is the shop of a working dairy farm, and its soft serve is made from the farm's own milk: non-homogenised, pasteurised at low temperature, from cows fed grass and corn grown on the farm. Reviewers keep describing the same unusual balance. The soft serve is rich and creamy, yet light and clean on the finish, with restrained sweetness. You eat it on outdoor benches facing the Northern Alps. The shop was selected for Tabelog's ice cream and gelato "Tabelog 100" in 2023 and 2026.
The plain milk soft serve is the reason to come. Several reviewers call it the best they have had, and many note the generous swirl packed down into the cone. Bottled milk and the drinking yogurt are frequent purchases. Others recommend the apple gelato, the cup that layers soft serve over apple gelato, the farm's cheeses, cheap local vegetables, and hot milk or chai in winter.
Criticism is limited. A handful found it less intensely milky than its reputation suggests, and one English-speaking reviewer called it "very normal". The size of the swirl varies with who serves you, and staff can seem mechanical at busy times. One reviewer had a soggy cone, and another found the mocha flavour weak.
Reviewers in 2025–2026 paid around ¥410 for milk soft serve in a cone or cup, ¥450 with blueberry topping, ¥450 for mocha soft serve or apple gelato, ¥190 for a cup of milk and ¥560 for a 900ml bottle. A typical daytime visit costs under ¥1,000 per person. The shop closes at 17:00, so there is no dinner service.
Value is good. Reviewers stress that ¥410 buys a large, high-quality serve, and one noted the price had not changed in a year, which is unusual for a tourist stop.
