Ramenya Mitsuba Za Se Kondo (ラーメン家 みつ葉 the second) is the second branch of a highly regarded Nara ramen institution, bringing its unique style to the historic Ikaruga area. The shop's calling card is its distinctive broth: a rich pork and chicken base emulsified into a silky, airy foam (espuma) that coats the noodles. This creates a soup that is intensely flavourful yet surprisingly light in texture.

Guests consistently praise the signature Buta-CHIKI Shio Ramen. The creamy, frothy soup is the main draw, complemented by multiple slices of thick-cut, peppery, low-temperature-cooked chashu pork. Diners can choose between chewy mid-thick noodles or a flat, whole-wheat style, and many note the excellent value of the free upgrade to a large portion. The chashu rice bowls are also a popular and well-regarded side order.

The experience is not without its practical challenges. Reviewers frequently mention long queues during peak lunch hours, a narrow and somewhat awkward parking area, and that the shop can sell out of soup or popular toppings. Seating is limited to a small counter, which can feel tight.

Despite this, most consider it excellent value. A typical bowl like the Buta-CHIKI Shio Ramen costs around ¥1,100, while a large version with extra chashu is about ¥1,300. A side of the chashu-don (pork on rice) is around ¥350. The overall spend for lunch or dinner is typically between ¥1,000 and ¥1,999.

  • Booking: Walk-in only; reservations are not accepted. Expect to queue, especially at lunchtime.
  • Getting There: The shop is about a 30-minute walk from JR Yamato-Koizumi Station.
  • Payment: Cash only. Orders are placed via a ticket machine at the entrance.
  • Seating: There are 13 counter seats only.
  • Menu: You can choose between regular and flat noodles (平打ち). A free upgrade to a large portion is often available. Note that some items may sell out.
  • Parking: Free parking is available for 7-8 cars, but the space is noted to be narrow.
  • Smoking: The entire restaurant is non-smoking.
