GUFO (グーフォ) is a small, award-winning gelato shop in Osaka’s Kitahorie neighbourhood, celebrated for its craft approach and focus on pure, intense ingredient flavours. Rather than overly sweet concoctions, the gelato here is dense and smooth, designed to let a single star ingredient shine. This philosophy has earned it a spot in the Tabelog “Top 100” guide for ice cream and gelato.

Guests consistently praise the quality of the core flavours. The pistachio is repeatedly described as pure and authentic, while the hazelnut soft-serve is noted for its exceptional richness. Other popular choices include the salt vanilla (shio vanilla), and more unusual combinations like dry-fig & cheese or Earl Grey chocolate. The texture is often highlighted as being smooth and slightly chewy, a sign of well-made gelato. Staff are also frequently mentioned as being friendly and able to communicate in English, making it easy for international visitors to order.

The shop’s main drawback is its size. With only six seats, it gets crowded quickly, especially on weekends, and you may need to stand or wait. Some reviewers also note that the toppings can be messy and the gelato melts very quickly in the heat. While most love the bold flavours, a few found them too strong or not to their personal taste.

Reviewers in 2024–2026 typically paid around ¥420 for a single scoop or ¥620 for a small double. The seasonal melon sundae was noted at ¥980. Most visitors consider it good value for the high quality and generous portions.

  • Booking: Reservations are not accepted. It is a walk-in-only shop, and you should expect to queue during peak times, especially on weekends.
  • Getting There: The shop is located on the ground floor of the U+ Building, a short 2-minute walk from Yotsubashi Station.
