Hiraoka Coffee Ten (平岡珈琲店) is a traditional Japanese coffee house, or kissaten, with a history stretching back to its founding in 1921. The main draw is a simple, time-honoured ritual: pairing the house's signature 'Hyakunen Coffee' (百年珈琲, or '100-Year Coffee') with a classic, freshly made donut.
Reviewers consistently praise this pairing. The coffee is described as deep, balanced, and aromatic, brewed using the shop's traditional methods. The donuts, available fried (揚げドーナツ) or baked (焼きドーナツ), are noted for their nostalgic sweetness and satisfyingly crisp or firm texture. The quiet, retro interior adds to the atmosphere, though the small space means it can feel cramped.
The shop's popularity means queues are common, especially at peak times. A few visitors have noted occasional inconsistency, with some donuts being a little dry or the coffee's aroma less pronounced on certain days.
Prices are considered very reasonable. Reviewers in recent years paid around ¥550 for the 'Hyakunen Coffee' and ¥280 for a donut, making the classic combination about ¥830. Given the quality and historical significance, most find it excellent value. You can also buy coffee beans (around ¥1,400 for 200g) and drip packs to take home.
