Sushi Kizuna (鮓 きずな) is one of Osaka's most acclaimed and elusive sushi counters, a place where a reservation is a prize in itself. The experience is a theatrical omakase, a long and steady performance of 20 to 30 small plates and nigiri built around pristine regional seafood. The chef's work is precise, from expert ageing and knifework on tuna to the signature red-vinegar shari that reviewers say seems to 'melt' on the plate.

Guests consistently praise the entire progression, but a few moments are iconic to the Kizuna experience. The meal often begins with a rich saba (mackerel) bōzushi and features a signature single-spoon serving of creamy Senpōshi oyster. Inventive cooked starters ('ate') like steamed ikura over white-miso rice, abalone nuku-sushi, and creamy shirako are highlights, alongside perfectly handled aged tuna and delicate anago (sea eel). The chef's friendly, engaging presence is another key part of the restaurant's appeal.

The only significant negative is access: the restaurant is effectively introduction-only, running on reservations held by regulars. New bookings are not accepted. For this reason, visitors should be extremely cautious of third-party booking agents, as some have reported problems.

The omakase course is priced at ¥19,800, though most diners report a final bill between ¥24,000 and ¥29,000 per person including drinks. Despite the price, reviewers overwhelmingly describe Sushi Kizuna as offering incredible value ('high cost-performance'), given the sheer number of courses, the quality of the ingredients, and the level of craftsmanship.

  • Booking: Strictly by reservation, and new reservations are not accepted. Access is only possible as the guest of a regular who holds a reservation.
  • Getting There: Located in the Miyakojima district. It's an 8-minute walk from JR Kyobashi Station, a 9-minute walk from Keihan Kyobashi Station, or a 10-minute walk from the subway Kyobashi Station.
  • Seating: There are 12 counter seats only, with two fixed seatings per evening (typically 6:00 PM and 8:40 PM on weekdays).
  • Payment: Visa and Mastercard are accepted. Electronic money and QR code payments are not.
  • Smoking: The entire restaurant is non-smoking.
  • Parking: No dedicated parking is available, but there are paid car parks nearby.
