Yakitori Taniguchi Tenjinbashi (焼鳥谷口 天神橋) is an omakase-only counter that has quickly become a destination for yakitori purists. The experience is built around rare Kyōtanba 'Kousaka-dori' chicken, with the chef portioning out roughly one whole bird for every two guests. What sets this restaurant apart is the chef's extraordinary control over the binchotan charcoal grill, using precise heat and smoke to create textures that reviewers consistently describe as revelatory.

The course begins with starters that showcase this technique, such as near-raw preparations of white liver and chicken breast (sasami) that have a silky, sashimi-like quality. Skewers are large and meat-forward, with the negima (chicken and leek) being a recurring favourite. However, the most praised dish is often the signature tsukune, a minced chicken meatball served intentionally undercooked and exceptionally juicy. Other highlights include a smooth liver pâté on bread, fried thick-age tofu, and a comforting finale of chicken rice and clear chicken soup. The drinks list is noted as being adventurous and well-curated.

While praise for the food is nearly universal, guests note that the intimate, 10-seat L-shaped counter is tight on space. The main challenge, however, is practical: securing a reservation is extremely difficult, with some reviewers mentioning a priority system for regulars. The base price for the omakase is considered excellent value for the quality, but the final bill can climb significantly with drinks and extra skewers. Reviewers in 2024–2026 reported paying around ¥16,500 for the course, with final bills often reaching ¥25,000–¥28,000 per person with drinks.

  • Booking: Reservation is mandatory and extremely difficult to secure. Plan weeks or months in advance.
  • Language: The restaurant requires non-Japanese speaking guests to be accompanied by someone who can speak Japanese. Failure to do so will result in cancellation with a 100% fee.
  • Location: On the 1st floor of the Luxe Plus Tenroku building in Osaka's Kita Ward. It's about a 3-minute walk from Tenjinbashi-suji Rokuchome Station.
  • Seating: 10 counter seats only. Not suitable for large groups.
  • Payment: Credit cards (Visa, Master, JCB, Amex, Diners) are accepted. Cash, electronic money, and QR code payments are not.
  • Age Restriction: Only guests aged 13 and older who can eat the full adult course are permitted.
  • Rules: Guests are asked to refrain from wearing strong fragrances. Punctuality is essential; entry is refused for arrivals more than 15 minutes late, and a cancellation fee will be charged. The entire restaurant is non-smoking.
