BLOCK HOUSE Suiyou Curry (水曜カレー, or “Wednesday Curry”) is an event as much as a restaurant. Open only one day a week, it serves a single, constantly evolving main dish: the Special Curry Plate. Each Wednesday brings a new combination of three distinct curries—typically one meat, one fish, and one vegetable—built around seasonal ingredients and served with a mix of basmati and Japanese rice. This focus on a weekly creative cycle has made it a cult favourite for those seeking spice combinations beyond the ordinary.
Guests consistently praise the creativity and balance of the plates. Standout dishes mentioned in reviews include inventive seafood curries featuring cold aji (horse mackerel) or saury, rich and coarse-ground pork or lamb keema, and vibrant vegetable sambars. The egg pickle side dish is also a popular addition. The polite service, with staff often explaining the components of the day's plate, and the well-curated selection of craft beers and other unique drinks add to the positive experience.
The venue's main drawbacks are practical. It's a small space with limited seating that feels cramped to some, and it frequently sells out. Long waits are common for walk-ins, and the restaurant is located on the third floor, accessible only by an external staircase with no elevator. A few visitors have also found the prices high for a curry lunch.
Typical spend is around ¥2,000–¥2,999 for lunch and ¥3,000–¥3,999 for dinner. Reviewers in recent years paid between ¥2,300 and ¥2,800 for the Special Curry Plate, with occasional anniversary plates costing up to ¥3,600. Sides like the egg pickle are around ¥300. Most diners feel it offers excellent value for its unique, high-quality cooking, though it's less suited for those prioritising speed or a low budget.
