L'appartamento di NAOKI is a theatrical dining experience, seating just six guests at a counter before a solo chef. Located in Nihonbashi Ningyocho, the restaurant is built around the primal element of wood fire (薪, or maki), which chef Naoki Yokoe uses to infuse everything from grilled steaks to smoked milk gelato with its distinctive aroma.

Guests consistently praise the creative and precise use of fire, which might gently warm caviar in one course and perfectly char a steak in another. The other main highlight is the handmade pasta. Unusually, the tasting menu allows diners to select and enjoy several different small pasta plates in one sitting. Past standouts have included squid ink tagliolini with karasumi and a rich cavatelli with mushroom cream. The focaccia and thoughtful wine and non-alcoholic pairings also receive regular acclaim, and international visitors report feeling welcome with clear English explanations.

Because the chef runs the kitchen and service alone, the pace can be slow and the meal can last three hours or more. The entrance is also discreet, requiring a call on an intercom to be let in. While the experience is overwhelmingly positive, a minority of reviewers have found a dish or two to be less memorable than the rest.

Reviewers report the fixed-price course costs around ¥19,800, with a typical total spend of ¥20,000 to ¥29,999 per person. A recent bill for two people came to approximately ¥56,000. Supplements for premium meats (¥1,500–¥3,000) and pairings like the half wine flight (¥7,150) are common. For a technical, intimate meal focused on craft, diners consider it excellent value for a special occasion.

  • Booking: Essential. With only six seats and a single evening seating, reservations must be made well in advance.
  • Getting There: The restaurant is on the 4th floor of the KYOE PLAZA Nihonbashi Ningyocho building, a 2-minute walk from Ningyocho Station (Hibiya and Toei Asakusa lines). The entrance is discreet; use the intercom on arrival.
  • Payment: Credit cards (Visa, Master, JCB, Amex, Diners) and PayPay are accepted. Electronic money is not. A 10% service charge is added to the bill.
  • Seating: 6 counter seats only. There are no private rooms.
  • Age Restriction: Reviewers mention a no-children policy; it is best to confirm when booking.
  • Practicalities: The meal is long, so plan for at least 2-3 hours. The entire restaurant is non-smoking. No parking is available.
