Located on the ground floor of the historic Josui Kaikan (如水会館) near the Imperial Palace, Mercury offers a taste of classic, Western-influenced Japanese dining in a calm, slightly old-world setting. The restaurant has two definitive draws that bring guests back: a rich, multi-day simmered European-style curry, and the Marron Chantilly, a famous Mont Blanc-style chestnut dessert with roots in Tokyo's grand hotel tradition.

Reviewers consistently praise the beef steak curry, noting the tender, well-seared steak and a deep, onion-forward curry sauce. Other popular dishes include the beef katsu curry and classic club sandwiches. For dessert, the Marron Chantilly is a must-try, available in several sizes. The lunch sets are widely considered excellent value, including soup, salad, and free-refill, self-service coffee in a spacious dining room.

While the experience is overwhelmingly positive, a few guests have noted inconsistent service, with staff sometimes being slow or inattentive. The calm can also occasionally be disturbed by noisy private groups holding alumni events in the hall. It's also worth noting that some signature items, like the steak curry or a Friday-only roast beef special, may have limited quantities and can sell out.

Reviewers in 2024–2026 reported lunch sets around ¥1,100–¥1,650. The signature beef steak curry was cited at ¥2,200–¥2,750, while the famous Marron Chantilly dessert costs between ¥600 for a mini version and ¥1,760 for a premium one. Overall, guests feel the prices are fair for the quality, generous portions, and historic atmosphere.
