Set within the charming Uenosakuragi Atari complex—a cluster of renovated traditional houses near Ueno Park—Think (Think) has quickly become a destination for bread lovers. It’s celebrated for its high-level viennoiserie and loaves, drawing long lines of both locals and international visitors.

The undisputed star is the milk-filled French roll (ミルクフランス), which reviewers consistently praise as one of the best they’ve ever had. The bread itself is chewy with a slight tang, providing a perfect counterpoint to the exceptionally rich, milky filling. Other frequently lauded items include the flaky, aromatic croissants, the savoury mentaiko-spiced baguette (明太フランス), fermented butter scones, and rustic country loaves (カンパーニュ), all noted for their excellent texture and flavour.

The main drawback is the bakery's popularity. Expect to queue, often for 30 to 60 minutes on weekends, as the small shop only allows four customers inside at a time. Popular items, especially the milk rolls, can sell out by early afternoon. A few visitors find the signature milk cream a little too rich or oily, but this is a minor point of contention.

Despite the wait, most consider Think to offer excellent value. Reviewers in 2024–2026 paid around ¥390 for the milk-filled roll, ¥371–¥390 for a croissant, and ¥390 for a fermented butter scone. These prices are seen as very reasonable for the high quality of the baking.

  • Getting there: Located in the Uenosakuragi Atari complex, about a 10-minute walk from Uguisudani Station.
  • Booking: Walk-ins only. Phone calls may be accepted for same-day holds, but not for advance reservations. Expect to queue.
  • Payment: Credit cards (VISA, Master, JCB, AMEX, Diners), electronic money (transportation IC cards like Suica, iD, QUICPay), and QR code payments are accepted. Note that a small fee may be charged for bags.
  • Service: Takeout only; there is no seating.
  • Practical tips: To avoid disappointment, go early. The bakery's hours can be irregular, so it is essential to check their official Instagram account before visiting.
