Important: Recent reviews suggest this restaurant may have relocated from Tokyo to Shimane Prefecture. Please verify the current address and booking status before making any travel plans.

TROMPETTE (トロんぺっと) is a tiny, ten-seat bistro in Nihonbashi Kodenmacho that has earned a devoted following for its big-hearted, technically accomplished French cooking. The experience is intimate, with a single chef running both the kitchen and the floor, delivering a performance centred on two signatures: a magnificent, multi-layered pie en croûte and exceptionally large, shareable plates.

Guests consistently praise the pie, which may feature pigeon or a beef fillet Wellington with porcini mousse, as a showpiece. Other highly recommended dishes include the short-horn beef tartare, crab risotto, and preparations of scallops with white asparagus. The portion sizes are famously huge, offering what many describe as excellent value. Desserts like lemon tart and nougat glacé are equally decadent. The chef’s personable service and well-chosen wine pairings are also frequently highlighted.

The restaurant’s small scale has its downsides. With the chef working solo, service can be slow, and securing a reservation is notoriously difficult, often requiring booking months in advance. The food is unapologetically rich and bold, which may overwhelm diners who prefer lighter fare. Dinner for a group sharing several plates with wine typically costs between ¥12,000 and ¥18,000 per person. Reviewers have recently paid around ¥7,260 for the duck pie en croûte and ¥2,890 for Tasmanian smoked salmon.

  • Booking: Essential and must be made far in advance. The restaurant is often fully booked for months.
  • Group Size: The large, family-style plates are best suited for groups of four or more.
  • Pace: Service can be slow as the chef often works alone. Plan for a leisurely evening.
  • Getting There: TROMPETTE is a 3-minute walk from Kodenmacho Station (Hibiya Line), or a 5-minute walk from Bakurocho Station (JR Sobu Main Line) or Bakuroyokoyama Station (Toei Shinjuku Line).
  • Payment: Credit cards (Visa, Master, JCB, Amex, Diners) are accepted. Electronic money and QR code payments are not.
  • Alcohol Policy: The restaurant has a strong focus on wine. A supplementary fee of ¥3,000 is charged for guests who do not drink alcohol. A cover charge of ¥700 per person also applies.
  • Seating: There are 10 counter seats. No private rooms are available.
  • Smoking: The entire restaurant is non-smoking.
  • Parking: No parking is available.
