Yosuga Sha (よすが舎) is a specialist curry shop in Shiba built around a simple, powerful concept: just two types of curry, cooked to order, with a menu that rotates weekly and monthly. What sets it apart is a masterful balance of complex spice blends with the savoury depth of Japanese dashi stock, creating flavours that are both novel and nuanced.
Guests consistently praise the creativity and precision of the cooking. Signature dishes like the Himalayan pepper keema and a unique cold chicken-keema rassaam are frequently mentioned for their aromatic depth. The curries are served with a fragrant blend of long-grain and basmati rice, and portions are noted to be generous. For a small surcharge, you can add a mini portion of the day's other curry to try both.
The main drawback is practical: with only eight counter seats, queues are common during peak lunch and dinner hours. The shop does not offer 'aigake' (serving two curries on one plate), though the ¥200 mini-curry serves a similar purpose. While most find the spicing exceptional, a few unique flavour profiles, like strong citrus or the numbing quality of certain peppers, may not suit every palate.
Reviewers find Yosuga Sha offers excellent value. A main dish costs around ¥1,100–¥1,200, with a full meal including a mini-curry add-on typically landing between ¥1,300 and ¥1,500. Given the quality of the ingredients and the made-to-order preparation, this is widely considered a bargain.
