Cafe & Teppan Restaurant Fujikawa (カフェ&鉄板レストラン 藤川) cooks Koshu beef, Yamanashi's own wagyu, on a polished teppan in an old wooden house beside a small hot-spring station. The chef trims fat from the block, sears the steak in it, then makes garlic rice on the same griddle and tops it with a crisp lid of okoge (scorched rice). The restaurant was selected for Tabelog's Steak and Teppanyaki EAST "Tabelog 100" in 2024 and 2025.
Nearly every review praises the tenderness of the Koshu fillet and sirloin, which many diners eat with just salt or wasabi. The garlic rice is close to a universal must-order. Regulars also recommend the cheaper suteki-juu (sliced steak over grilled leeks and rice), the dashi-rich miso soup, the griddled vegetables and the friendly chefs at the counter.
A minority found the service brusque. One older female staff member was called rude, guests are sometimes asked to set out their own cutlery, and the owner can be curt with his staff. Two 2024 reviews objected to margarine and salad oil on the griddle, though more recent reviews describe butter and beef fat. Some find the sirloin too rich, and one diner thought the hamburg was bready.
Reviewers in 2024–2026 paid around ¥1,980 for a 120g suteki-juu and about ¥2,000 plus tax for a 150g imported-beef service lunch. A 150g Koshu sirloin set cost about ¥4,730 and a 150g Koshu fillet set about ¥5,800. A 240g hamburg lunch set was ¥2,100, and switching to garlic rice added ¥400–550. Expect to spend roughly ¥3,000–4,000 at lunch and ¥6,000–8,000 at dinner.
Most reviewers consider it good value: wagyu teppanyaki of this quality would cost far more in Tokyo, and the budget lunches are generous. One dissenter found ¥5,000 for 120g of fillet steep.
