Ootaki (王瀧) is built around chanko nabe, the hearty hotpot eaten by sumo wrestlers. Staff assemble it at your table from a towering tray of vegetables, chicken, hand-formed tsukune, pork and beef in a clear, gentle broth, and the beef is swished shabu-shabu style at the end. Photos and autographs of celebrities and sumo wrestlers cover the walls. The kitchen also runs a yakiniku menu, and you can order both in one meal.
Most reviewers praise the delicate broth and the sheer volume. The fluffy tsukune, the melting fu (wheat gluten) and the finishing course of zosui or kishimen noodles cooked in the leftover broth come up again and again. Among the side dishes, katsuo no tataki (seared bonito) and seared liver are near-universal recommendations. Yakiniku fans single out the salted tongue and the kalbi.
Criticism centres on service, which is uneven: a minority describe a curt manner at the counter and on the phone, and impatience with first-timers. Side dishes carry no listed prices, so bills can surprise. A few find the broth too mild. One reviewer was steered from card to a 5% cash "discount" with no itemised bill.
Ootaki serves dinner only, so there is no lunch spend. Dinner typically runs ¥6,000–8,000 per person, and the listing's review-based average is higher at ¥8,000–9,999. Reviewers in 2024–2026 paid around ¥3,300–3,500 per portion for the pork chanko (ume) and ¥4,600 for the pork-and-beef matsu. A draft beer set with edamame and a small dish cost about ¥1,000, and a cola ¥440. A course with all-you-can-drink came to roughly ¥10,000.
Value is good for the chanko itself. Portions are so large that most groups order one fewer portion than their headcount. The unpriced side dishes are what push the bill up.
