Tandoor is a local legend, a tiny counter-only spot in an underground mall near Nagoya Station that has been serving just one thing for decades: its unique curry. The dish is distinctive, built from a concentrated, water-free base of long-cooked onions and tomatoes that delivers a clear spice punch. Served in a small silver gravy boat alongside a plate of rice, it’s a style that reviewers agree is neither traditionally Indian nor Japanese, but something entirely its own.

Guests consistently praise the signature dish, the "Indo Karē to Gohan" (Indian Curry and Rice). They describe a deeply savory, slightly thick gravy that pairs perfectly with the firm rice. Another point of constant praise is the speed: orders often arrive in just one or two minutes, served by the long-time staff in an intimate setting. At around ¥950 for the main dish, it's widely considered excellent value.

The main criticism is that the spice level can be stronger than expected; many reviewers note that the medium-hot option (中辛, chūkara) is quite fiery and recommend the mild (甘口, amakuchi) for anyone unsure. When the small space gets busy, there are occasional order mix-ups, and the limited-quantity turmeric rice often sells out early in the day.

Reviewers in 2024–2026 typically paid ¥950 for the curry and rice. Add-ons include a salad for ¥450, an extra large portion of rice for ¥200, or 1.5 times the curry roux for ¥400. A satisfying meal with extras often totals around ¥1,550.

  • Getting There: Tandoor is located in the Miyako Underground Mall, about a 2-minute walk (163m) from Kintetsu Nagoya Station.
  • Reservations: Walk-in only. Reservations are not accepted. Turnover is fast, so even if there's a line, the wait is usually short.
  • Payment: Cash only. Credit cards, electronic money, and QR code payments are not accepted.
  • Seating: There are only 10 seats, all at the counter.
  • Children: School-age children are welcome.
  • Good to Know: The menu is minimal. You will be asked to choose your spice level (mild, medium, or hot) and rice (white or turmeric, when available). Service is in Japanese.
