Yoshimitsu (芳光) is a takeaway-only wagashi shop in Nagoya that has earned a devoted following for its masterful confections, particularly its signature warabi mochi. This is not the firm, jelly-like sweet many visitors know; Yoshimitsu's version is legendary for being so soft it's almost liquid, a delicate bracken-starch mochi wrapped around exceptionally smooth koshian (strained red bean paste) and dusted with fragrant kinako (roasted soybean flour).

Reviewers consistently praise this warabi mochi for its melt-in-the-mouth texture and perfectly balanced sweetness. The shop also produces a stunning array of seasonal fresh sweets (上生菓子, jō-namagashi) that change monthly, celebrated for their beauty and flavour. The main drawback noted by visitors is that the famous warabi mochi is seasonal, typically sold only from October to June, and often sells out early in the day. All items have a very short shelf life and are meant to be eaten on the day of purchase.

For the quality of the craft, prices are considered excellent value. Reviewers in 2024–2026 paid around ¥330–¥360 for a piece of warabi mochi and ¥350–¥370 for seasonal sweets like nerikiri. A small box of four pieces was noted at ¥1,450, with a typical total spend between ¥1,000 and ¥1,999.

  • Booking: Phone reservations are highly recommended, as the most popular items frequently sell out. While walk-ins are possible, arriving early is essential.
  • Payment: Cash only. Credit cards, electronic money, and QR code payments are not accepted.
  • Access: The shop is a 15-minute walk from Morishita Station on the Meitetsu Seto Line, or a 5-minute walk from the "Yamaguchicho" or "Tokugawaen Shindeki" city bus stops.
  • Parking: Limited parking for four cars is available on-site.
  • Service: This is a takeaway-only shop; there is no seating for dining in.
  • Notes: The signature warabi mochi is not available during the summer months (usually July–September).
