Nippon Budokan

日本武道館

B

Judo, kendo (sword fighting), karate and aikido are popular in Japan. Most tournaments are held at the Nippon Budokan. The arena was built for the 1964 Olympic Games — the year judo was added to the Olympic program. The Budokan has an interesting octagonal, temple-style roof. Some competitions are closed to the public, but on weekends many tournaments take place with free admission.
