A sister restaurant to Fukuoka's three-Michelin-star Sushi Sakai, Gaho Jin (我逢人) offers a sushi experience of equivalent standing. It uses the same top-tier fish and Edo-style shari (sushi rice seasoned with red vinegar), served in two intimate tatami counter rooms, each seating just six guests. The meal is a chef-led omakase, a highly curated progression where each piece is explained, often with the help of an iPad for international visitors.
Guests consistently praise the exceptional quality of the ingredients, which include Ōma tuna, multiple varieties of uni (sea urchin), fugu (pufferfish) with ankimo (monkfish liver), and steamed abalone. The precise knifework, the balance of the rice, and the thoughtful sake pairings are also highlights. Service is noted as being particularly attentive and accommodating to non-Japanese speakers, with staff able to communicate in basic English, Korean, and Cantonese.
While overwhelmingly positive, a small minority of reviewers found the shari a little too sharp with vinegar or served a touch warm for their taste. As is expected at this level, the price is high, and while most feel it's justified by the quality, a few found it strained expectations. The single omakase course cost reviewers around ¥33,000 in 2024-2026, with final bills including drinks typically landing between ¥38,000 and ¥52,000 per person.
