Kamo to Negi Yodomizu Nigyo (鴨と葱 淀水二行) offers a singular, focused experience: a multi-course kaiseki menu dedicated entirely to duck. Located in Fukuoka's Haruyoshi district, this small restaurant has earned a following for its thoughtful progression of flavours, which culminates in a memorable shabu-shabu hot pot.
The meal is a set course that begins with creative small plates. A consistent highlight for nearly every reviewer is the foie gras monaka, a crisp wafer sandwiching duck liver pâté with smoked radish (iburigakko) and dried persimmon. The main event is the duck shabu-shabu, where guests cook various cuts of duck—including roast, thigh, and tsukune meatballs—in a simmering dashi broth. The real magic, praised by visitors, is how the broth deepens in flavour throughout the meal. This enriched dashi is then used for a two-part finish (shime): first with thin somen noodles, and then with rice to create a savoury zosui porridge. The house-made pudding for dessert also receives frequent praise.
The experience is intimate and can feel cramped, as seating is limited to a counter and a few small tables. The only consistent negative feedback concerns the tight space and the difficulty in securing a table. Dinner is a set course that reviewers in 2024–2026 reported costing between ¥6,000 and ¥7,000 per person before drinks. Most diners consider this excellent value for the quality and complexity of the meal.
