Sachia Beef Stroganoff (サチア ビーフストロガノフ) is one of Japan's few restaurants dedicated entirely to beef stroganoff. Located in Fukuoka's Maidashi district, this small, counter-only spot is the project of a French-trained chef who has perfected a single concept: a stroganoff sauce that is rich with umami but surprisingly light, avoiding the heaviness of some Western versions. This focus, along with its consistent execution, has earned it a place in the prestigious Tabelog 100 list for Western-style Japanese food.
Guests consistently praise the signature sauce, served over butter or grain rice, and the tender, slow-braised beef within it. The 'Beef Stroganoff Omurice', which pairs the sauce with a fluffy omelette, is a particular favourite. Popular add-ons include a juicy hamburg steak or thin, silky slices of roast beef, though these can sell out. Reviewers also single out the quality of the small three-part starter set (typically soup, salad, and pickles) and the house-made canelé for dessert.
The main criticism is practical: the restaurant is tiny, with only about ten counter seats, so it fills up fast, and queues are common, especially at lunchtime. Portions are described as modest, which may not satisfy larger appetites. A minority of diners accustomed to heavier versions have found the sauce a little mild for their taste.
Reviewers report excellent value, with lunch and dinner both typically costing between ¥1,000 and ¥1,999. Recent guest bills show the 'Original Beef Stroganoff' at around ¥1,120–¥1,298, and the 'Beef Stroganoff Omurice' at ¥1,280–¥1,298. A hamburg steak topping adds approximately ¥420–¥580.
