Gyoza Suguruya is a counter of six or seven seats where the owner, a former wagashi (Japanese sweets) maker, rolls the dough and folds each dumpling to order while you watch. The signature is the curry gyoza (華麗なる餃子), filled with near-molten curry roux. The dish is unusual even in Japan. The place was selected for the Tabelog Dumplings "Tabelog 100" in 2024.
Nearly every review praises the skin: thick and chewy, crisp on the bottom, juicy inside. The curry gyoza is the most-named favourite. Regulars also order the pan-fried yaki gyoza, the springy boiled sui gyoza and the oroshi gyoza, served in a light broth with grated daikon and nori. The owner's warmth and jokes come up again and again, including from foreign guests who speak no Japanese.
The complaints are mostly about time. Waits of 20 minutes to an hour are common, with another 15–20 minutes before the food arrives. Some reviewers find the skin too thick or the filling small. One detailed Japanese review called the evening pleasant but overpriced. Three foreign reviewers say they were told the shop was closing or full, then saw it stay open or seat other guests.
Reviewers in 2025–2026 paid around ¥800 for six yaki gyoza or six sui gyoza, and ¥900 for the curry gyoza or the spicy sesame piripiri gyoza. Draft beer was about ¥700. A compulsory ¥200 otoshi (starter, here macaroni salad) is added to the bill. A light visit runs about ¥1,700–2,000 per person. Dinner typically comes to ¥2,000–2,999, and five plates for two came to about ¥8,000. There is no lunch service.
Most reviewers think the handmade quality justifies the price, though a minority found it steep for gyoza. The plates are small, so it works best as a drinking snack on a second stop rather than as a full dinner.
