Tezukuri Hamburger Steak Kobo Toshi is a multi-award-winning restaurant dedicated to perfecting one dish: the hamburg steak. Each patty is kneaded by hand and served on a sizzling iron plate, arriving so juicy that diners are given a paper guard to protect themselves from the spray. While the hamburg itself is the star, many reviewers consider the accompanying salad, a large and varied platter of farm-fresh vegetables, to be just as much of a showpiece.
Guests consistently praise the soft, succulent texture of the meat. Popular choices include the classic demi-glace, a cheese-topped version, and the signature hamburg with sharp, refreshing mountain wasabi (yama-wasabi). The generous portions and clear sourcing of high-quality ingredients are frequently highlighted as reasons for its popularity.
The main drawback is the wait. Queues of an hour or more are common, and the compact basement dining room can feel cramped. The sizzling plates also create a strong smell of grilled meat and grease that can cling to clothes. Staff speak very little English, so a translation app may be helpful.
Despite a listed price range of ¥1,000–¥1,999, recent reviewers paid closer to ¥1,890–¥2,068 for a 180g hamburg set, or around ¥2,475 for a larger 320g mountain-wasabi hamburg. These sets include rice and the signature salad, and most diners feel it represents excellent value for the quality and quantity of the food.
