Hidden in the basement of a building in Yokohama's Aioicho district, The Bar CASABLANCA is a classic speakeasy, complete with a secret entrance behind a bookshelf. Inside, the atmosphere is intimate and focused, with most of the 15 seats arranged along a polished wooden counter, placing the bartenders' craft front and centre.

The bar is famous for its creative use of fresh, seasonal Japanese fruit. Reviewers consistently praise the inventive cocktails, which change throughout the year. Past highlights include drinks made with sweet potato and rum-raisin, shain muscat grapes, figs, and a yuzu Gold Rush martini. Each drink is presented with a small, warm cup of consommé, a signature ritual that frames the experience. Beyond the fruit creations, the bar is also lauded for its confident classic cocktails and a strong selection of whisky.

The bar's small size is part of its charm, but it does mean it can fill up quickly. The hidden basement entrance can also be tricky to locate for first-time visitors. It's important to note that smoking is permitted throughout the venue, which some non-smoking guests found intrusive during busy periods. A few visitors also found the staff's quiet, professional service a little distant, though most described it as highly attentive.

For the level of craft, prices are considered very reasonable. Reviewers typically spend between ¥4,000 and ¥4,999. Individual seasonal cocktails recently cost around ¥1,200–¥1,600, while a yuzu Gold Rush martini was about ¥1,200–¥1,400. There is a cover charge of ¥800, which includes the signature consommé and small snacks (otoshi).

  • Getting There: The bar is a 3-minute walk from Bashamichi Station on the Minatomirai Line. It is located on the B1F (basement floor) of the Belle Ville Bashamichi building.
  • Reservations: Reservations are recommended as seating is very limited. Walk-ins may be possible, but the bar often fills up.
  • Payment: Credit cards (VISA, Master, AMEX) are accepted. Electronic money and QR code payments are not.
  • Seating: There are 11 counter seats and a few small tables. Groups are limited to a maximum of four people.
  • Smoking: Smoking is permitted throughout the bar.
  • Parking: No parking is available.
