Mitsuhisa Honke (しゃぶしゃぶ光久本家) is the sister restaurant of the well-known Shabu Shabu Kin, and it does one thing: a single shabu-shabu course built around Agu, Okinawa's heritage pork breed. Slices of loin and belly go briefly into a light bonito-and-kelp broth. There is no ponzu or sesame sauce. You season the pork with shiikwaasa pepper, local Yagaji salt or a pork-fat miso. Around 18 island vegetables, many unknown on the mainland, share the pot.

The dish reviewers mention most, in every language, is a slice of rare loin wrapped around umibudo (sea grapes). Nearly every review praises the pork as rich but never heavy, with no off smell. Staff cook the first rounds and explain each vegetable, and many reviewers single this out. Other highlights are the creamy jiimaami-dōfu (peanut tofu) starter, a broth good enough to drink, and the closing noodles cooked in the enriched stock.

Criticism centres on value. Two Taiwanese reviewers felt the price was high for what is essentially hotpot, and an English-speaking reviewer found the meat portion small. One reviewer reported dropped and delayed dishes when the room was full. A few Japanese diners felt it fell short of its reputation or preferred the rival restaurant Matsumoto.

The restaurant serves dinner only, with no lunch service. Reviewers in 2025–2026 paid around ¥7,480 per person including tax for the Agu shabu-shabu course. A family of five paid ¥45,400 in total for five courses, six alcoholic drinks and three soft drinks. Extra meat and vegetables can be ordered, but the reviews give no prices for them. Expect ¥8,000–9,999 per person at dinner with drinks. A service charge is added to the bill; the rate is not stated.

As a special-occasion dinner it is fair value, and most reviewers rate the cost-performance well. Big eaters and diners used to cheaper hotpot are less convinced.

  • Getting there: about 5 minutes' walk from Kenchō-mae Station, near Kokusai-dōri.
  • Booking: needed. Reviewers booked between 2–3 weeks and 3 months ahead, and holidays sell out. Online booking is available, and reservation calls are answered 14:00–22:00. A few walk-ins got seats at 17:00, but do not count on it. Only the course is served, so seat-only bookings are not accepted.
  • Age restriction: children who have not yet started elementary school are not admitted. Older children must be booked for the same course as adults.
  • Payment: cards accepted (VISA, Mastercard, JCB, AMEX, Diners), plus electronic money and QR code payments. A service charge is added.
  • Seating: 54 seats. Private rooms are available for 4, 6, 8 and 10–20 people.
  • Smoking: non-smoking.
  • Parking: none. There is coin parking nearby.
  • Language: English and Chinese menus are available, but staff speak little English. Ponzu is available on request.
