A LEGO playground for young builders in Osaka Bay 🧱

LEGOLAND Discovery Center Osaka is an indoor family attraction that opened in April 2015, designed specifically for children aged 3 to 10 and their parents. Unlike the full-scale LEGOLAND theme parks, this is a compact “Discovery Center” occupying one floor of the Tempozan Marketplace shopping complex—perfect for a half-day visit or a rainy afternoon activity.

What’s inside?

The center features two main rides: Kingdom Quest, an interactive laser-shooting dark ride through a castle, and Merlin’s Apprentice, a spinning ride where children can pedal to control their cart’s height. A 4D Cinema shows animated LEGO movies with special effects like wind and water sprays.

The real draw for LEGO enthusiasts is the hands-on play areas. Children can build and race cars on test tracks, construct earthquake-proof towers, explore the colorful LEGO Friends “Olivia’s House”, or dig through brick pits for hours of creative play. There’s also a Duplo Farm area for toddlers.

Miniland — The Highlight

The most impressive feature is Miniland, a detailed LEGO recreation of Osaka’s famous landmarks including Dotonbori with its iconic Glico Running Man sign, Osaka Castle, Tsutenkaku Tower, and Umeda Sky Building. The display cycles through day and night lighting, with interactive buttons that activate moving trains and other animated elements.

Practical Information

Tickets: Must be purchased online in advance with a designated entry time slot—same-day tickets may not be available.

Food: On-site café serving hamburgers, curry, and snacks (including LEGO brick-shaped buns).

Entry rules: Adults cannot enter without a child.

Size note: The attraction is relatively small—visitors comparing it to full LEGOLAND parks often express disappointment.

Location

The Discovery Center is located on the 3rd floor of Tempozan Marketplace, a 5-minute walk from Osakako Station on the Osaka Metro Chuo Line. The same complex houses Osaka’s famous Kaiyukan Aquarium and the Tempozan Giant Ferris Wheel, making it easy to combine multiple attractions in one day trip.
