The chef trained at a fishmonger and still bids for his own fish at the Numazu market auction. That background shapes the whole meal. The menu lists only ingredients, so each course arrives as a surprise. Local fish rarely seen in restaurants turn up, such as kesa, a Numazu wrasse. The kitchen also has an inventive streak: a grilled-aubergine ice cream works as a palate cleanser, and a purée of 'shiitama' (shiitake with egg) leaves diners convinced they are tasting truffle.
Nearly every reviewer singles out the black-rice risotto, made with rice from a named Izunokuni farmer. Depending on the season it comes with snow crab, sakura shrimp, or lobster and matsutake. Guests also praise the five-piece petits fours, the chef's visit to each table and generous birthday surprises. Many diners are regulars.
Complaints are few and minor. One diner wanted a larger meat course. A few found some pairings clashed, such as sake lees with duck or matsutake with lobster. Some of the petits fours are an acquired taste, and one reviewer found the staff's small talk intrusive.
Between 2024 and 2026, reviewers paid around ¥6,800 for the casual lunch and ¥7,800 for the cheapest dinner course. Higher tiers ran ¥9,800, ¥13,800, ¥15,400 and ¥22,000, and a seasonal bistro course cost ¥8,800. Free-flow drinks were ¥3,800 and a glass of champagne ¥1,350. An 8% service charge is added. Typical spend is ¥10,000–14,999 per person at both lunch and dinner. One couple paid ¥33,222 for lunch with drinks. Reviewers consistently call it good value: even the 'light' course leaves you full.
