Ton Kara Ten (とん唐てん) makes what Japanese diners call white tonkatsu. The pork is fried slowly in low-temperature lard, so the crust stays pale and the meat comes out pink and very tender. The other signature is an unusual oyakodon made with grilled gamecock. You eat most of the bowl as it is, then add yuzu pepper and other condiments and pour gamecock broth over the last portion to finish it like ochazuke. The shop has been selected for Tabelog's tonkatsu "Tabelog 100" in 2022, 2024 and 2026.
Most reviewers single out the tenderness of the pork, and many call the hirekatsu (fillet) the moistest they have eaten. Salt is the preferred dip. The salad served before the katsu, with two house dressings, is praised again and again, and the oyakodon with its broth finish draws consistent raves, as do its seasonal versions. The calm, restaurant-like room and polite service also come up often.
A recurring minority find the fatty loin greasy and heavy, and the thick 'matsu' cut too much to finish. Two reviews from 2026 noticed a stale smell from the frying oil. Some find the sauce ordinary or too sweet, and one reviewer felt the staff were overbearing. Cooking takes 20–30 minutes after ordering.
The listed budget band understates what people pay. Reviewers in 2024–2026 paid around ¥2,189 for a tonkatsu set in 'take' size or the hirekatsu set (some quote ¥1,990), ¥2,790–3,069 for the Tokugin premium loin, ¥3,190 for the Yume no Yume Pork loin, about ¥1,631 for the oyakodon, ¥748 for tonkara (pork karaage) and ¥600 for oyster fry. The cheaper lunch set was suspended in 2026, so expect roughly ¥2,000–3,000 per person at both lunch and dinner.
Reviewers note it costs about twice an ordinary tonkatsu shop but find the meat, generous portions and careful sides worth it. Diners who dislike rich, soft katsu are less convinced.
