Gourmandise (グルマンディーズ) is a tiny, ten-seat restaurant in Nishiazabu where the chef single-handedly cooks, serves, and narrates the entire meal. The intimate, red-walled dining room hosts just one seating, creating a slow-paced and personal experience for a handful of guests each evening. This one-man operation is defined by its focus and precision.
The fixed omakase menu has earned widespread acclaim, centered on two signature dishes. Reviewers consistently describe the crab risotto as life-changingly rich and flavorful, while the pan-seared Mita beef is praised for its razor-sharp crust and juicy interior. Other frequently lauded dishes include the opening caviar and blini, salmon and white fish beignets, a rich shrimp bisque pasta, and the house cheesecake. The wine list is also well-regarded, with good pairings offered at a reasonable markup.
The main challenge is a practical one: securing a seat. The restaurant is effectively appointment-only, and new reservations are almost impossible to come by, with most diners being regulars or their introductions. While the service is usually flawless, a few recent guests have reported uncharacteristic moodiness from the chef. As is common, ordering premium wines can also elevate the final bill significantly.
Reviewers in 2024–2026 reported the omakase course cost around ¥9,500, with food-only totals ranging from ¥9,500 to ¥15,000. With wine, bills can be much higher; one party noted a total of around ¥37,000 per person. For the quality of the cooking, guests overwhelmingly consider it exceptional value, a perception that only diminishes if multiple premium bottles are consumed.
