Souka (蒼菓) is a highly focused experience: a dessert-only omakase served at an intimate six-seat counter in Nishiazabu. The entire meal is a succession of plated desserts, each built around exceptional seasonal ingredients and paired with one of seven carefully selected teas from Leafwine.

Guests consistently praise the creativity and precision of the menu. Signature moments include a millefeuille baked to order and served hot, and a famously light shortcake with premium mask-melon. Other lauded dishes highlight rare domestic fruits and even vegetables, such as a palate-cleansing potato consommé or an onion mousse with tomato. The tea pairing is considered a central part of the experience, with reviewers noting how it elevates each dish.

However, the format is not for everyone. Some diners find the non-stop series of rich sweets to be heavy, and a few felt certain savory-leaning items, like those using cacao or vegetables, were less successful. The small counter can also feel a little cramped.

Reviewers in 2024 paid ¥17,600 for the dessert omakase course, which includes the tea pairing. Most consider this excellent value for the quality of the rare ingredients and the elaborate, multi-course format, though it's best suited for a special occasion for a true dessert lover.

  • Booking: Reservations are mandatory and must be made via the OMAKASE website. Seats are released on a schedule and fill instantly, so booking is extremely difficult. Checking for last-minute cancellations is recommended.
  • Getting There: Souka is on the 3rd and 4th floors of the Art Silo building in Nishiazabu, an 8-minute walk from Hiroo Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line.
  • Seating: There are only 6 seats at the counter. Please arrive on time, as late arrivals may miss courses.
  • Payment: Credit cards are accepted. Electronic money and QR code payments are not.
  • Smoking: The entire restaurant is non-smoking.
  • Parking: No parking is available.
  • Takeout: For those unable to secure a reservation, a separate shop, Tearoom by 蒼菓 in Azabudai, offers items for takeout.
