Other highly recommended dishes include the three-kind chicken sashimi platter (tori-sashi), the aptly named “phantom” chicken wings (maboroshi no tebasaki), and house-made Sanzo sausages. Many diners round out the meal with a comforting bowl of oyakodon (chicken and egg over rice).
While the food is widely loved, be prepared for the atmosphere. The charcoal grilling produces a great deal of smoke, and reviewers frequently note that the ventilation is poor. Your clothes and hair will pick up the smell, and it can become uncomfortably warm in the summer. A minority of non-Japanese visitors have also reported brusque service from the owner, though most domestic reviews are positive.
Reviewers in 2024–2026 reported paying around ¥2,500 for the Yamagura Gozen lunch set, ¥1,500 for a plate of jidori for grilling, and ¥1,529 for the chicken sashimi trio. Most find it to be excellent value for the quality and generous portions. Expect to spend ¥2,000–¥3,000 for lunch and ¥3,000–¥4,000 for dinner.
