Koryori Yarn: An Intimate Italian-Japanese Counter Omakase

Koryori Yarn (小料理 Yarn) is a culinary 'theatre' in Takamatsu with an audience of just four. Chef Masaya Funakoshi’s stage is a small counter where he performs for his guests, preparing an Italian-based omakase tasting menu built almost exclusively with ingredients from the surrounding Shikoku region. This creates a unique fusion, where Italian techniques meet local Japanese produce.

Guests consistently praise the creativity and intimacy of the experience. The meal unfolds like a conversation with the chef, who prepares each dish to order. Highlights often include freshly baked bread and handmade pastas, which appear at the counter during service. While service is generally lauded for its convivial atmosphere, a few diners have found some dishes, particularly those using the iriko dashi, to be assertively salty or briny.

Reviewers in 2024–2026 typically reported paying around ¥15,800 for the omakase course and ¥8,800 for the drink pairing, with a 10% service charge bringing the total to approximately ¥27,000 per person. Despite the high price, guests feel the exceptional quality of the ingredients, the chef's skill, and the unique, personal nature of the meal offer good value for a memorable culinary experience.
