Waguri Senmon Saori (和栗専門 紗織) is a dessert destination dedicated to one thing: premium Japanese chestnuts. Located in a renovated traditional townhouse (machiya) with views of the Kamo River, its main draw is the spectacle of its signature Mont-Blanc being made. At the counter, chefs pipe out gossamer-thin 1mm strands of chestnut paste, creating a dessert celebrated for its visual drama and pure, intense flavour.
Guests consistently praise the quality of the desserts, which are known for being rich in chestnut flavour without being overly sweet. The top-tier 'Sha' Mont-Blanc, made with premium Kyotamba chestnuts, is a frequent highlight, as is the slightly smaller 'Tsumugi' version. Seasonal offerings like fruit parfaits and shaved ice desserts also receive positive mentions. The experience is often described as a performance, especially for those seated at the counter.
However, many visitors without reservations report a less positive experience, citing long waits, indifferent or brusque service, and strict enforcement of rules. Popular items can sell out early in the day, and a few guests have noted occasional issues with the texture of the meringue base. A typical visit costs between ¥2,000 and ¥3,000. Reviewers in 2024–2026 paid around ¥3,080 for the signature 'Sha' Mont-Blanc and ¥1,980 for the 'Tsumugi', both including a paired drink. Upgrading to matcha can add ¥660, while wine pairings cost ¥1,300–¥1,600 more. Most feel the price is justified by the high-quality ingredients and unique presentation.
