Shin-Kōbe Station, literally meaning 'New Kōbe Station', is strategically situated north of Kobe's city center, nestled at the base of the scenic Mount Rokkō. This unique location places it in a small space between two significant tunnels, the Rokkō and Kobe Tunnels, through which the high-speed Shinkansen trains predominantly run. The station is well-connected to the city center via the Kobe Municipal Subway, making it easily accessible for both residents and visitors.
Railway Lines
As a crucial transportation hub, Shin-Kōbe Station serves two major railway lines. It is a key stop on the San'yō Shinkansen, Japan's high-speed rail network connecting Osaka with Fukuoka. Additionally, it is served by the Kobe Municipal Subway's Seishin-Yamate Line and the Hokushin Line, providing convenient access to various parts of Kobe and its surrounding areas. The station features two side platforms on the upper level for Shinkansen services and an island platform and a side platform on the lower level for subway lines.
Station History
Shin-Kōbe Station was purpose-built for the San'yō Shinkansen, opening its doors on March 15, 1972, to accommodate the new high-speed rail service. Later, on June 18, 1985, the Kobe Municipal Subway began operations at the station, further enhancing its role as a vital interchange point. This dual development underscores its importance in connecting Kobe to both the national Shinkansen network and the local urban transit system.
