Kanazawa Hirayama (金澤 平山) is a dinner-only kaiseki restaurant in a quiet townhouse-style space in Nomachi, just outside central Kanazawa. The meal builds to its finale. After the seasonal courses, clay-pot rice comes out in round after round, each with a different topping: Kobako crab, salmon with ikura, sea urchin with egg yolk and more. Most diners manage four to six bowls. Seasonal flowers, incense and themed tableware set the tone, and courses follow each guest's own pace rather than a single timed seating.
Reviewers almost unanimously praise the warmth of the okami (hostess) and the shy, focused chef. The rice rounds are the most talked-about part of the meal, above all the uni-and-yolk bowl. Crab recurs throughout, notably a chawanmushi with more crab than custard. The lavish hassun platter and the presentation draw steady compliments. Some guests leave with a parting gift of roast sweet potato or a rice ball.
Criticism is mild. A few find the cooking consistently good but rarely thrilling, and one diner thought the dessert too simple. In 2022 one reviewer noted small portions and few courses before the rice. Seasoning is light, though wasabi and mustard are applied boldly. Regulars at the counter can get loud.
There is a single omakase menu and no lunch service. Tabelog's ¥8,000–9,999 band is out of date. Reviewers paid around ¥15,000–15,750 in 2023, rising to about ¥17,000–18,000 in 2025–2026, before drinks. Prices for individual dishes, including the rice rounds and the crab chawanmushi, are not documented, since everything comes within the set. Japanese reviewers consistently call it good value. They say it costs well under comparable kaiseki in Kanazawa or Tokyo for similar craft, and nobody leaves hungry.
