Ichirin Hanare: Creative Chinese in a Kamakura House

In a renovated traditional house in Kamakura's quiet Ogigayatsu district, Ichirin Hanare (イチリン ハナレ) offers a theatrical and inventive take on Chinese cuisine. Much of the seating is at a long counter facing the open kitchen, giving guests a direct view of the chefs' meticulous work. The atmosphere is relaxed and intimate, set within a classic Japanese home complete with a garden view.

The menu is built around multi-course meals that highlight exceptional ingredients and creative flair. A signature sequence beloved by reviewers begins with yodare-dori (mouthwatering chicken), where the complex, spicy sauce is later reused to dress dumplings, and finally seasons a bowl of mountain-pepper noodles. Another showpiece is the seared fukahire (shark fin), served in a rich broth that is often transformed into a risotto at the table.
