Ramen Jiro Kyoto ten (ラーメン二郎 京都店) is the sole Kyoto outpost of the cult-favourite Ramen Jiro chain, a name synonymous with gargantuan portions and a fiercely loyal following. Located in Kyoto's ramen-famous Ichijoji district, it delivers the classic Jiro formula: a rich, pork-heavy broth, a mountain of hearty noodles, and slabs of what fans call 'kamibuta' or 'divine pork' for its tenderness and flavour. The shop adds its own Kyoto twist with fresh Kujo-negi (green onions) and frequently changing limited-edition tsukemen (dipping noodles) with flavours like yuzu or curry that you won't find at other branches.
Guests consistently praise the sheer volume and quality for the price. The thick-cut pork is a standout, as are the chewy noodles that soak up the broth. Many recommend adding the optional Kujo-negi (reviewers paid ¥100) to add a fresh, sharp counterpoint to the bowl's richness. The seasonal tsukemen are also frequently singled out as a highlight worth trying.
The Jiro experience can be a learning curve for first-timers. A minority of reviewers note occasional inconsistencies in soup temperature or saltiness, and service can sometimes feel brusque. The ordering process has its own specific etiquette, but many also report friendly staff and a clean counter.
Reviewers in 2024-2026 reported paying around ¥1,150 for a regular bowl and ¥1,050 for a half portion, making it excellent value. A typical meal costs between ¥1,000 and ¥1,500. Given the huge serving sizes, ordering a 'half' portion is a wise choice for most diners.
