Horumon Ryori Senmonjo Toneya (ホルモン料理専門處 利根屋) is a Hiroshima legend, celebrated for its old-school teppan counter where staff cook large orders of mixed offal (horumon) right before your eyes. The main draw is the lively atmosphere and two signature dishes: the horumon itself and koune, a salt-grilled fatty beef shoulder served with a pile of shredded local negi onions.

Guests consistently praise the freshness of the horumon, which is served without any unpleasant smell, and the salty, rich flavor of the koune. The house dipping sauce, a blend of acidic and miso notes, is a perfect complement to the grilled meats. The experience is best rounded out with cold beer and simple finishing dishes like the koune-don (koune over rice) or the hearty horumon soup. The live cooking at the counter is a key part of the appeal.

Diners should be aware of the restaurant's unpretentious character. The ventilation can be poor, leading to a hot and smoky environment, and smoking is often permitted. Some find the owner's loud and brusque manner with his staff uncomfortable, though service to customers remains attentive. You may also be asked to place the bulk of your order upfront.

Prices are very reasonable. A typical meal costs between ¥1,000 and ¥1,999, though with drinks, many reviewers reported spending ¥2,000 to ¥7,000. Recently, koune cost around ¥825–¥880, a serving of horumon was ¥715–¥770, and a koune-don was ¥600–¥770. Most consider it excellent value for the quality, especially if treated as a spot for drinks and snacks.
